Students enrolled in the 1st-year SGE Master's program actively participate and contribute to the organizational success of Environmental Sciences plenary gatherings (JSE). This Congress produces a summary of the state of knowledge within an environmental field of current interest, in addition to providing a forum for young researchers to present their findings and for the public to learn about latest research results. Discussions held in a roundtable format hosted by professionals, notably from the Val-de-Marne Departmental administration, set the stage for lively debates as a complement to topics raised during the scientific presentations.

These one-day events are jointly organized by the University of Eastern Paris-Créteil, the University of Paris Diderot, the École des Ponts ParisTech Engineering School and the Val-de-Marne Departmental Council.

The 26th Environmental Sciences session took place February 3rd through 5th 2015 at the Departmental Conference Center in Créteil around the topic :

« Decline of biodiversity: Can current trends be reversed ? »

Over the years, the MECE Congress has become a key gathering among actors expressing concerns over how the sciences and society's activities interrelate with the Parisian environment.

This event provides a forum for exchange and sharing of expertise among a broad panel of students majoring in an array of fields, as well as professionals working on such issues, while not overlooking all interested members of the general public seeking to participate in the open discussions.

This Congress is held every June on the University of Paris-Diderot campus in the Buffon Amphitheater. Its 2015 date has been set for June 18th.

Included in the schedule of the Environmental Sciences Plenary sessions (JSE), a jobs fair is organized for SGE Master's degree students. This fair enables students, in possession of a personalized analysis of their skills, to produce a series of job fact sheets in the fields of city planning and the environment through interviewing event exhibitors. Such a gathering also provides the opportunity for other students to discover the professions and career paths available by meeting one-on-one with companies and public service agencies.

Moreover, the companies and urban services involved in running cities and protecting the environment can get acquainted with students completing advanced degrees, instructors and researchers, in the aim of enhancing their brand image and observing the level of interest their activities are generating among today's students.

Private sector economic actors (small and medium-sized companies, consultants, advisors, architecture practices, planning and environmental firms, etc.) and their public sector counterparts (local and regional authorities, associations, etc.) have been invited to host a stand during one or two half-days. These entities are grounded in the fields of urban and environmental sciences and technologies, which include the natural and social sciences, and multiple ecological activities (involving water, air, soils, waste, noise, energy and lifestyle).

The SGE Master's program encourages the participation of some of its classes at a number of professional trade shows. Examples include: the class of 2015 AIR major (Indoor and Outdoor Atmospheres) will pay a visit to the ContaminExpo show in Paris in April 2015; and the class of 2017 will be present at the Pollutec show in Lyon in December 2016.

The Observatory of Sciences of the Universe, also known as « OSU-EFLUVE » , hosts scientific gatherings on subjects related to the SGE Master's program. These assemblies are organized as half-day events and held every other month, alternating at the university venues of UPEC (Main Campus) and the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech (Champs-sur-Marne), with on each occasion two featured scientific or technical presentations. The « Lavoisier Lectures », initiated in 2009 by the Chemistry Department at the University of Paris-Diderot, sets the stage to host for a full week once or twice a year an internationally-renowned, high-profile scientist active in the chemical sciences field. For the occasion, the invited guest lecturer gives a series of talks open to the Paris Region's community of chemists, as well as to doctoral and Master's students.

The last two distinguished guests to lecture on environmental topics were :

Professor Meinrat O. Andreae

From 25th to 27th November 2014, Meinrat O. Andreae, Professor at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry (MPIC, Mayence, Germany), was invited for the Lavoisier Lectures. Professor Andreae led a series of three conferences entitled: "The Climate Tug-of-War, Greenhouse Gases vs. Aerosols in the Climate of the 21st Century", "Aerosol-Cloud-Precipitation Interactions in the Climate System", and "The Two Towers - Aerosols and Trace Gases in the Remote Forests of Siberia and the Amazon".

Professor John H. Seinfeld

From 21st to 24st November 2011, John H. Seinfeld, Professor at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech, Pasadena, USA), was the Lavoisier Lectures guest of honor. Professor Seinfeld gave two talks entitled: “Aerosols and Climate” and “Organic atmospheric aerosols”.
