Objectives

The first year of the "Sciences et Génie de l'Environnement" (SGE) master consists in offering a broad and multidisciplinary formation required to understand the various aspect of environmental issues, in particular scientific, economic and political. The objective is thus (i) to give the basic concepts needed by future specialists to locate their technical skill in the very broad context of environmental issues and (ii) to provide the required elements enabling easy exchanges between partners of various environmental forces. 

The first six months are dedicated to present basic knowledge on the cycles occurring in natural and disturbed systems, the various environments (air, water, soils), the ageing of materials in the environment, and the political and economical dimension of environmental issues. Data management and statistical processing are also treated during this period.  The next six months mainly focus on environmental metrology. They deal as well with the harmful effects of urban pollution, the impact of pollution on various receiving environment (ecosystems and public health among other) and waste management. This program comprises 510 hours of education.  After this first year, the students will have a good knowledge of the natural environments and the required scientific bases to characterize and evaluate the impacts of human activities on the environment. 

Optional teaching units are also proposed during the second six month period.  They aim at giving some further technical skills and/or at broadening their spectrum of knowledge.  These optional teaching units cover various fields, from microbiology to applied mathematics.  In total, seven teaching units are proposed within the framework of GSE and 90 hours of education are devoted to them.  Students are free to choose external education units as well, in particular within the framework of the other masters proposed by the Universities Paris 7, Paris 12 and the ENPC.

The first year program is elaborated in such a way that the student's background does not condition its orientation towards the specialities offered within the second year of SGE.  The student will chose their orientation only after the first year, after discussion with the teaching staff.

Les 5 spécialités proposées dans le Master permettent de former des étudiants essentiellement dans les thématiques air, eau se posant principalement à l’échelle régionale et appelant des réponses aussi bien dans les sciences fondamentales que dans le domaine socio-économique associé. Ces cinq spécialités reposant sur d’anciens DEA (CPAPE UP7 et STE UP12) et DESS (QCBA UP7 et SAGA UP12) ont été entièrement refondues pour donner la meilleure cohérence possible des enseignements en fonction des savoir faire des équipes et établissements impliqués. Certaines d’entre elles comme AQA et SAGE ont ainsi pu très facilement offrir des sorties Recherche ou Professionnelles en mutualisant, en début de M2, des enseignements communs. Toutes les cinq ont été conçues en étroite interaction et certaines UE sont mises en commun en raison des fortes interfaces existant entre les différents milieux étudiés.

Par le biais de choix optionnels laissés à l’appréciation conjointe de l’étudiant et de l’équipe de formation, nous avons recherché à privilégier la notion de parcours de façon à ce que les étudiants puisse acquérir la formation la mieux adaptée possible à leur projet personnel.
